TRI-EF COGNAC'S STORY

At the end of 1981 Aquila Curlew (a *Clan Dash daughter) was offered for sale in the Welsh Roundabout Magazine, in foal to the 100% Coed Coch bred stallion, *Coed Coch Pernod, and to be Pernod's First foal in the USA.  About an hour later a 5-generation pedigree was on paper and Diana Fischer knew: That Was IT, she Had to have it!  And … it had better be a stallion quality colt, and chestnut if at all possible. So George Fischer purchased the mare and her unborn foal on the spot as a Christmas present for Diana.

It was March of 1982 when Aquila Curlew arrived at Tri-Ef Ranch with another filly that was purchased named Smoke Tree Siwgr.  When Diana's X-mas present finally became "Unwrapped" on May 3, 1982, he was all that Diana asked for and More!  There was her 'Santa Claus' and what a job he did for us since.  Always ready to do what he was asked to do and do it Well.

From Tri-Ef Cognac's first show as a 3-year-old in Ventura where he won both his class and Grand Champion Section A, he has won halter and pleasure driving championships at just about every Welsh and open breed show he went to.  He was even shown under saddle in a Roadster Under Saddle class that he won!  He went on to win Western National Grand Champion Section A Pony in 1994.  Then around 1997 or so he developed a toe crack and had to retire.  (Tri-Ef Cognac was solely trained, shown, driven and ridden by Jane Fischer [now Jane Fischer deThouars] during his entire show career).

During the years he had many very good mares put to him and consequently sired numerous winners also in halter and various performance divisions!  He even has several foals all over the nation thanks to A.I. and transported semen.  Cognac's get were shown numerous times in Get of Sire class, winning many of those classes, too.

One very important event was a colt sired by Cognac was sold and exported to Hokkaido, Japan in the late Spring of 1996!! This was the first time Ever that any Welsh was exported to another country off of this continent!!  This colt's name is Tri-Ef Fame 'n Fortune out of the lovely Seamair Crusader daughter Tri-Ef Glyndwr Fable.

So it is a great finale for Diana Fischer's retirement for her 'Santa Claus' to win the prestigious WPCSA Sire Legion of Merit Award.
It was presented to him at the WPCSA AGM in February 2008.
